"Our Day Out" by Willy Russell - Hagbourne Village Hall

Date:
11 March 2020 - 7:30pm - 14 March 2020 - 7:30pm

“Why Can’t It Always Be This Way?”

Our Day Out is a musical  celebration of the pains and pleasures of growing up and being let loose from school, just for the day.

Join well-meaning but inept teacher Mrs. Kay, and her remedial class students as they take a coach trip from their disadvantaged inner-city school to visit a castle in the country. Along the way they get side-tracked into some hilarious and chaotic events, and there are signs that the future may not be so bright for these less-than-bright kids.

This sensitive comedy was originally written as a BBC ‘Play for Today’ in 1976, but later Willy Russell and Bob Eaton added a lively musical score and the play was adapted for the stage, premiering at the famous Everyman Theatre in Liverpool in 1983.

This HAMS production introduces a whole new generation of local actors and shifts the action to London and the south coast but stays devoted to Russell’s original intent.

We hope you enjoy it.
