ODN PLAYWRITING COMPETITION - First prize £100

We are pleased to announce the launch of a playwriting competition which is open to any member of a drama group in the Oxfordshire Drama Network. Entrants must be amateur with no previously published plays.

We are looking for one–act dramas of any genre - comedy, tragedy, mystery, romcom, psychological thriller, musical – in fact, anything that takes your fancy. They should be a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 45 minutes in length to comply with the usual one-hour-to-set-and-strike drama festival rules.

First prize will be £100, second prize £50, and third prize £25.
The winning play will also be passed to all 46 groups in the Oxfordshire Drama Network and could result in a performance either to their local audience or in a future drama festival.

The competition will be judged by Joe Graham, the man behind the successful Oxfordshire drama group Balancing Act and a talented writer of numerous one-act and full-length plays, one of which is currently touring the UK with a cast of well-known professional actors. Joe wrote in the August edition of the ODN Newsletter that his writing success stems from a similar competition.

Entries should be sent to Deidre Jones, 14 The Motte, Abingdon, OX14 3PA by April 15. The results will be announced at the Gala Night of the ODN Festival on June 23.

So, do we have the next Alan Bennett, Arnold Wesker, Tom Stoppard, Caryl Churchill or Will Shakespeare in our midst? Let’s find out…and get writing!! We look forward to hearing from you.
